1) Minimize distractions - texting while studying, chatting on facebook, distracting environments will kill you.
2) Keep a study log and set daily and weekly goals - time only counts if you are studying. This way, you can hold yourself accountable. Also, set goals for what you want to get through. You will have to figure out what pace you need to be going to get through your material. Also, prioritize...sometimes, no matter how much time you study, certain things have to be dropped or de-emphasized. This is especially important in college.
3) Study with a partner - will help you if they push you and hurt you if they are easily distracted or lack discipline. Choose carefully! If you can't find a good one, you are better off studying solo.
4) Motivate yourself to be genuinely interested in what you are studying. EVERYTHING can be interesting, and the more you understand it, the more interesting it will be.
5) Take intermittent breaks, but set a 15 minute break timer. This way you don't loose too much time with excessive breaks. Use your breaks to catch up on texing, facebook, etc and all the stuff that you will not be doing when you are studying.
6) Talk out loud and pretend you are explaining what you are learning to someone else. This will help you solidify concepts and make things fun, although, there is a small risk that those who overhear you doing this will think you've lost it.
6) Study 5/6 days, then rest one or two. You've earned some time off....hopefully. But seriously, if everyday you are going as strong as you can, you'll burn out and find it harder to concentrate, which equates to loss of efficiency and less free time. You can enjoy your time off knowing you just had 5 or 6 productive days and that you are about to have 5 or 6 more.
