Solve and graph x2 + x – 4 = 0.

Divide the first inequality by -6
  x + 1/2 < -1/2
  x < -1    (after we subtract 1/2 from both sides)

Add 3 to both sides of the second inequality
  2x > 10
  x > 5    (after we divide both sides by 2)

The combined solution consists of the entire number line, except for the interval between -1 and +5, inclusive.  -1 > x > 5
