Unless you are a computer programmer, or a student in a numerical analysis class, you probably will have no personal use of numerical methods "in real life." However, you benefit from numerical methods every time you make use of a calculator (root, log, exponential, trig functions), weather prediction, GPS device, spreadsheet "solve" function, or any other device or computation involving iteration or solution of non-linear or matrix equations.
I suspect video games and computer graphics may also make use of numerical methods, at least for some aspects. (The computations can be more time-consuming than such applications allow.)
