A sales hexagon is a diagram that is used when a company is going through a sales process. There are six elements to the sales process and these are illustrated in the hexagon. The elements that are used in a sales hexagon are:
• Planning
The planning stage is broken down into a number of stages and the first of these stages is to agree a team that will deal with the sale of the company. This team will have an adviser, as well as a number of shareholders. The objectives of selling the company and the different options of type of sale are discussed. The approach that the company will take towards the sale process is then agreed and the legal team is decided upon.
• Preparation
This stage is one of the most vital of the sales hexagon. Documentation is prepared and the presentation to potential buyers is put together. The communication to the press and other media forms is discussed and a timetable is put into place for the sale process.
• Partnerships
Potential partners are selected in this process and the marketing positioning of the company is established. The strategic position of the company is discussed and the list of prospective partners is narrowed down.
• Proceeds
The valuation of the company, and the way proceeds of the sale will be divided are discussed in the fourth process. The ability of the potential buyers to pay is analyzed.
• Process
A short list of potential partners is drawn up and negotiations begin with a small number of them. The sales agreements are drawn up by the lawyers and presented to the prospective buyers who have been shortlisted. The sale is completed and discussions are held about the future of employees, and shareholders.
• Proposal
This is the stage that concerns the adviser of the sale. The fees are drawn up and these will include expenses and a success fee.
