Every college has its strengths and its weaknesses, regardless of where it is located or what type of kids attend. Just like a business in a competitive industrial market, a school needs to make sure it is getting the right type of PR to attract students and their parents to their college. If a school shows it is dealing with its problems in a positive way and is constantly making sure the local area and media know about its achievements, it is only a matter of time before prospective new students come knocking at the door.

There are a number of things a college could do to attract new students. These include the following:
•Develop and maintain a good relationship with the local media. If a student has excelled in their examinations or if the college has won a prestigious award, make sure the community knows about it by putting it in the local paper. This may also apply to news stories about past students who have gone on to be hugely successful.
•Maintain good links with high schools in the area to encourage students to go on to study at the college.
•Make sure there is a great mix of extracurricular activities on offer that will appeal to a variety of students. Not all students are interested in sports, so make sure you have activities such as a college newspaper, maths group, debating team and other organizations for them to join.
•Teaching standards need to be at the highest levels possible to help students get the highest grades.
•Modern ICT facilities and libraries also help attract students to a new college.
•A good support network for students will also help, too. For example, a college counselling service or support for international students may appeal to a lot of families.
