According to the IBM website, the first ever IBM factory was opened in Endicott in the year 1901. The roots of the company International Business Machines (IBM) actually dates back as far as the 1880s. In fact it was only formed through the merging of four different companies. These were the International Time Recording Company, the Tabulating Machine Company, Bundy Manufacturing Company and the Computing Scale Corporation. The merger was down to financier, Charles Flint, who went on to call the company the Computing Tabulating Recording Corporation. It later went onto be known as IBM.
Today, commonly nicknamed the ‘Big Blue’ - the company has its main headquarters in Armonk, New York. The current CEO is Samuel Palmisano and the company is well known for both selling and manufacturing computer hardware and software. It is then exported to countries all over the world. The company also has a number of research laboratories in a number of different countries around the world.
