Dan is not correct. 3/5 has the same value as 6/10.
6/10 is very different from 3 5/10.

"/" is a division symbol. The expression 3/5 means "3 divided by 5".
The decimal point (.) is a marker that identifies the place values of digits on either side of it. The number 3.5 means "3 and 5 tenths."

Oh, send him to school...   3/5 means "three divided by five", which is less than one.
3.5 means "three items, plus one half of an item".
