Is an introduction and abstract the same?

No. Entirely different functions. Abstract is a brief summary designed to show a prospective reader what your argument, support and conclusions are.

Introduction is intended to invite reader to go further.

There may be more accurate descriptions out there, but that is the distinction. Abstract is  so somebody can scan the contents and move on. Introduction says, "Hey sailor, looking for a good time?"
