Some people studying the past has little value in the modern world. Why do u think it is important to do so?

Because if we realize our past mistakes, they say we are less likely to repeat them in the future

I don't. They say history repeats itself but, I think that is because most people have a problem with developing their own ideas and values. The subconsciously keep that history retained and it guides their actions.
Sometimes ignorance is bliss and many new ideas come from ignorance
or simplicity.

It helps you remember your past mistakes and thus you won't repeat them again in the future. But sometimes, you can't always remain in the past, you have to look forward to the future, don't be too backward, must be forward-looking sometimes.
