The WAEC is the West African Examination Council, which helps Nigerian students to apply for schools during a certain time period each year. For 2011/2012, the deadline for GCE form applications is July 31, 2011.

If a student misses a chance to take the examination they need to take to get into a Nigerian educational institution, they will need to wait until the next year (2012/2013) to apply - chances are good that next year's deadline will also occur around the end of July, 2012.

• How to prepare for exams

Before taking an exam through the West African Examination Council, students should brush up by paying particular attention to their math and English skills. These important subjects will always play a role in how well a student does in their GEC form exams for WAEC. Reading and math comprehension can be improved with dedication and practice; this effort will definitely pay off when a student is taking an important exam.

Of course, knowledge in other school subjects, such as science and history, or languages, may also be required, before a student can expect to do well in their WAEC examinations. Smart students prepare early, and study diligently, instead of cramming for exams by studying hard at the last possible moment.

• Organization is important

To do well at exams, a student must be prepared; part of this is knowing when and where an examination will be held, and exactly what rules and regulations there are about the taking of the exam.

Learn all you can about the GCE forms and the West African Examination Council, before you arrive to take the test. By preparing well and being punctual, you will feel more confident, and do much better on your exam.

Visiting the official WAEC website is a great way to get oriented - be sure to contact WAEC personnel if you need more information about deadlines and test results.
