If you are typing in a font that does not allow superscripts, you can use the caret (^) as the exponentiation operator like this.   (a number)^2 - (something else) Example   "a number" = 5   "something else" = 14   5^2 - 14    is your expression  If you are using a font that allows superscripts, write the power as a superscript following your number. Example   52 - 14
