Check the values of z in the area table under the unit normal curve:

Area under z =  -2.49 is 0.4936
Area under z =   1.19 is 0.3880

Total area = 0.8816

Now, the total area under the normal curve is 1, and total area of z is 0.8816. This shows that percent of area between z = -2.49 and z = 1.19 is 88.16%.

Hey Amber22

I\'m a little confused........

My instructor came up with 86.8% and says it\'s right answer..... I not sure how she got that but I hope to prove her wrong. Can you show me how you got 0.8816 or 88.16%?

Well! Its a very simple problem and 0.1866 has achieved from the addition of 0.4936 and 0.3880. If you know the value of z then just look in the table and add the two values. I hope its clear now!

Check the values of z in the area table under the unit normal curve:

Area under z =  -2.49 is 0.4936
Area under z =   1.19 is 0.3880

Now, Total area  = area under z on right + area under z on left

                         =  0.4936 + 0.3880 = 0.8816

You know that the total area under a normal curve is 1, and total area of z is
0.8816. Therefore, total area under z in terms of percentage is 88.16%.

Check z = 1.19. I'm guessing it's a typo. 0.3830 might be considered closer.

Answer should be 87.7%
