If cot x = .78, what is tan x?

Tan X is the inverse.

1/0.78

= 1.28

Adding on to John's answer, just know that cot x = 1/(tan x). Same thing with csc x = 1/(sin x) and sec x = 1/(cos x). And, obviously, the numerator and denominator flip. In most cases.
