That would be the Iroquois tribe. As they lived in New York State.

Rooster is correct, the Iroquois Nation lived in the northeast and influenced much of the area, they actually pushed the Chippewa into the Midwest. The Chippewa, called the Dakotas (Sioux) Nadowses siou, meaning "little snake" but they called the Iroquois "big snake".
They were a confederacy of 5 nations (I forget what each of them were called). Even the Cherokee were of Iroquois lineage, but, was not a part of the confederacy when Europeans made contact with both nations.
I believe the Crow Tribe would be the correct answer.
