The term "fair number cube" seems to be showing up here lately as a descriptor of what we used to call a die (or dice). It is a cube made of uniformly dense material, rounded slightly on the edges and corners, and numbered 1-6 on the faces so that opposite faces add to 7.

Many games involving dice require that you roll two of them (in an attempt to obtain randomization) and add the values that appear on top when they come to rest on a horizontal surface. The total of the values showing on the two cubes is often used to determine the next step in the game. (As in Monopoly, for example.)
