The formula for the surface area of a cube is:
S.Area=length x breadth x 6
In the question we are given that:
L=4
B=4
So plugging in the values:
S.Area=4*4*6
Multiplying:
S.Area=96
Hence the total surface area is 96

A cube has six faces of equal dimensions.  Each face of your cube is 4 by 4 (you don't mention the units of measurement, so I will assume that this cube face is 4" by 4").  Thus, each face has a surface area of 16 square inches.  I will let you do the math from here on.
