Convert your percentage into a decimal. For example. 40% = 0.4
Then times this by your number
0.4 x 3.16 = 1.264
0.35 x 1.69 = 0.5915

If you know a numer after a percentage decrease, how do you find what the starting number is? Example: The six pack of beer was $6.78 after a 25%decrease. What was the original price?

In arithmetic, the word 'of ' mean multiplication and the % sign means divided by hundred. Therefore, 40% of 3.16 would mean

40/100 x 3.16 = 1.264

35/100 x 1.69 = 0.5915

I'm stubbed- we saw 557 patients last year, November. This November we saw 645. Do I divide whole over part with this problem (645/557)? Or, 645 - 557=88. 88/557= 15.8% increase?
Thanks.

To calculate percent change: Take the old value, subtract it from the new value, then divide by the old value. Multiply that number by 100. The answer is the percent change. If the old value is 4 and the new value is 8, the percent change is 100%.
