Schools do not like pupils taking time off but accept that there will be occasions when it would be wrong to refuse to give permission. This will normally be in the case of death or illness but on occasions they will even accept the need for a family holiday.
How to write the PERFECT school leave application:
When a parent writes to the school there are certain things they should make sir they include. This will make it clear why refusing would be unfair and also a way of proving that it is from them rather than the pupil.
If the parent is unsure who will need the letter it will; be best to send it "To Whom it may concern” as it may need to go through a few different departments.

Make sure the letter is polite and that it is a request for leave rather than just a way of letting the school knows that the child will be missing.
If it is due to a death there should be little resistance but make sure that this is mentioned. In the same way if it is for another reason and is a first request point this out as hopefully they will accept that this is not something that is happening all the time.
Put the dates that the child will be missing so as the school will know when to expect the child back and also explain that how important it is for the child to attend school but that on this occasion it is felt that there needs to be an absence.
Sign the letter when it is finished rather than just writing the name as this will give staff more confidence that it is a genuine letter. Add a phone number as well so as to let the school know that there is no problem about giving more details if they are required.
