There are 7 mandatory subjects that students will take, however they will cover 31 in total as well as one Vocational skills subject out of 12 and one Ghanaian Language and Culture subject out of 11. In addition, French will be deemed a compulsory subject if the school has French tutors.
The B.E.C.E exams stand for Basic Education Certificate Examination which are the exams that need to be taken in order to progress to Senior Secondary Schools and Technical Institutes in Ghana. The entry period of these exams are just before the students leave Junior Secondary School in July/August and it usually takes around six weeks. Students can be entered from both Entry schedules and Entry forms which are administered by the District Directors of Education. You will only be eligible for these exams if you are in your third year of Junior Secondary School and if you have been approved by the Ghana Education Service. Results of the exams are released in lists to the participating schools as well as individual statements to the students. They will be available in August so students can go to their Senior Secondary Schools for the start of the academic year in September.
