Divide 156 by 6, you multiply a number by six to get 156, therefore if you divide, then that will give you your answer. You can check your work by multiplying each number by six until you get 156:)

Let X = length.  Saying length is 6 cm more than width is the same as saying width is 6 cm less than length so width = X - 6.  Perimeter = 2 x L + 2 x W.  So  156 = 2 x X + 2 x (X-6)  thus 156 = 2X + 2X - 12 or 156 = 4X - 12.  Add 12 to each side to isolate X then divide each side by 4 to solve.
