How can the sum of two odd numbers sometimes be odd?

If they're not whole numbers, then it is entirely possible.

For instance, we are given the numbers 17.5 and 23.5. These are not whole numbers, because they have a decimal point, and when added, you will get:

17.5 + 23.5 = 41

This is one of the few cases in which the sum of two odd numbers gives yet another odd number.
