An abstract is basically the summary of the entire project that you have done and it is better to write it once you are through with the project. It starts off with why you were motivated to do his research, why is it important. After that write the problem you were researching. The next thing to write is the approach or the method that you used to go about the project. After that, write what were your results in a just a line or two, not in detail and finish off with a conclusion of your research.

As it is just a summary, it has to be brief and crisp. It should just give an overview of the project not the details as it will become too long then and its purpose will be lost. An abstract between 250 to 300 words is quite enough.
