Poor grasp of the Language. Same reason these same people say "35 cent" instead of "35 cents".
Why do some people say "ax" instead of "ask" ? Like, don't ax me?
Aside from poor grammar, it is also a regional thing. Do not want to offend anyone, but I will say it is seems to be more prevalent in parts of the East Coast.
