What is the importance of education in Islam?

I think the importance of education varies depending on which sect of Islam you refer to. Boko Haram, Isis and Wahabbi Muslims are stoutly fundamentalist in their philosophies and their elites express open rejection and disdain for higher, western-style education, particularly science and the fine arts. Easier to keep the entrapped masses ignorant and obedient. I challenge anyone to identify even one world-class university, hospital or state-of-the-art scientific research facility run by Muslims in an Islamic country.
