Okay, lets say for example we have a helix which is wrapped around a cylinder. If you roll it on the flat place the you'll find the product to be a straight line. Its length would be the circumference of the cylindrical object. Now the angle of the helix is the gap or distance the helix will rise in one rotation which will be divided by the circumference of the cylindrical object.
