The short answer is yes. There is a caveat though and it is a big one, it depends on where you are doing your driving test.

If you’re in the UK then you can do the theory test with a voiceover in one of 21 languages. You may only take this option if your first language is not English or you cannot read or understand written English well.

Hindi is one of the languages you can choose from. The others are Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Cantonese, Dari, English, Farsi, Gujarati, Kashmiri, Kurdish, Mirpuri, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Pushto, Spanish, Tamil, Turkish, Urdu and Welsh.

As regards to the practical part of the test, no guidelines are available but I assume that if you can do the theory in Hindi you can do the practical test in Hindi as well.

If you are taking the test in the United States of America then things get a little trickier. Drivers’ licences are issued by individual states rather than central government (it’s not a Federal exercise) so the test and procedures differ between states. The exception is Commercial Driving Licences which are centrally processed.

Written Test:
Most states give no info on whether you can do the test in a different language. Missouri expressively states that the test can only be taken in English or American Sign Language. Quite a few states offer the tests in other languages, mainly Spanish, Vietnamese or Korean.

Certain states say you can to the test face to face with the presence of an interpreter. These are California where you can do the written test face-to-face, so if you find a Hindi speaker you may be able to do the test in Hindi. Vermont, if your command of English is lacking you can either bring a dictionary or use an interpreter. New Hampshire, for those who can’t read English well, the DMV offers an oral test, you must request it and Michigan where applicants with a poor grasp of the English language can use a spoken language interpreter and/or request a printed translation of the written exam in one of many languages.

The one state that I know who can definitely do the test in Hindi is Maryland where they have several state approved Hindi translators: www.mva.maryland.gov/Driver-Services/Apply/IntTransList.pdf
Of course if you are in India, Nepal or Mauritisu then you can do the test in Hindi.
