It’s a debate that has been around for a long time: Should children have homework? Usually, the students who are given assignments by their teachers will say ‘no’, but you have to think about the potential advantages of extra-curricular learning. Over time, some children can find certain topics within the subjects they study difficult. For example, a 10-year-old primary school boy might be really gifted at English, but may find understanding grammatical conventions a challenge. In these circumstances, completing homework assignments can allow them to catch up with the rest of the class, and the practice they receive through doing these worksheets will give them more confidence.
Of course, homework is something that should be given in moderation. An alternative way to ensure that children retain the things they learn in class is to encourage revising for spelling tests, or asking that they practice reciting their times tables. Not only does this improve memory and leave them prepared for their next day of classes, but it ensures that parents are involved with the education process, and that they can see how their kids are doing.
Too much homework can result in children being overworked, and this might mean that they get tired and lose the ability to concentrate when they are in school. After all, how would you feel if you had spent six hours in the classroom but had three more hours of paperwork to tackle in your bedroom? It can be frustrating, and it’s important that children have time to relax and play out with their friends, enjoying their youth. All work and no play can be counter-productive, and may leave a child disinterested in their educational career.
Homework is very important for the children, it keeps their mind attentive and more towards studies instead of other things, which can spoil their mind, and just wastage of time.
If they don't have homework then, they will spend their most of the time in playing games either on computer or other general games. They will spend their precious time with friends, without any reason. When they go back to school then they don't like to study and want that free time again. And then study is just a problem for them.
When there should not be a proper routine of their homework then, they will not take any interest in studies. Homework keep the children up-to date, when they came from school, and when they do homework then it is the reminder of the whole day school work, so they don't forget the lessons, which they taught in the morning time at school. And also in the vacations parents have to set some time for their homework, so their routine will not be effected and they will be attentive and near to their studies. And after vacations, school will not be a burden for them. So homework is good for children.
I work at a Middle school and homework is part of the learning process. It's given to students to help them learn responsibility. It also is part of their grade. When our students bring in their homework, even if it's not correct, we know they tried and that is very important. Children need to learn to try and when they do, they seem to want to do well in school! This also teaches them not to be afraid to take chances, (the good ones) and helps their self-esteem!
Home work is a very good thing it keeps kids of the road and keeps dem out of trouble.but mostly it keeps children oqupied through out the school life. Why is home work assigments is important for academics success?
Hi ,friends, I think that the homework should not be abolished because it is a way to be in touch with the studies even at home also. It helps in the revision of the chapters done in the school and helps a student during the exams.
So friends- " learn to love and respect homework. It is for our benefit only. "
There are 3 different learning styles: Visual (watching something), Auditory (listening to something), and Kinetic (do something). Homework is Kinetic learning. This is the only style that provides feedback for the teacher to be able to evaluate children's comprehension. A child could appear to be watching and listening, while they may simply be looking and hearing. By receiving this feedback, the teacher could in turn provide feedback on the children and perhaps tailor lesson plans to better explain difficult concepts.
Classwork has the same effect, but with a time limit. Homework is a better opportunity to practice.
No student enjoys homework, yet it is an important tool for the learning process of a teenager's mind. I'm a fourteen year old student at a public school and I may hate having after-school homework, but I do also realize that kinetic learning is important. But enough homework is enough. Kids need to have time for extra-circular activites as well as idle time or time with friends and family, which is jsut as important as education in the growing process of a teenager. A student cannot be spending all the little time they have outside of the 7-hour school day with even more homework. So what do I suggest? Give out little homework, but don't take it away completely. Make it short and easy so that kids do not have teh desire to cheat with friends and that it takes little time, yet still helps their brains to learn and remember the things learned in class that day.
Us kids really don't need all this homework and I'm a 7th grader ( I will be 13 in April) and I go to a private school and they give us all this homework and one teacher gave us a 10 page report, 11 pages with the cover, and its based on this small paragraph. But I think that we should have homework but not a whole lot just like one thing to do not a million things from seven different teachers. It's just to much homework!
No one can prove that homework helps students. It's proven that it actually doesn't reinforce the learning skills in what that subject is. It causes A LOT of stress which can cause depression then lead to suicide which is really dumb to do but a lot of teenagers do it. It takes time away from your friends & family, it also takes away social and relaxation time. Homework causes discipline when the child gets frustrated & doesn't complete it. Also students that actually do their homework,... Well some, just end up rushing through it to go & play something or talk to their friends. ECT I'm not saying for anybody to NOT do their homework though. This is just my opinion.
Hi friends.... In my opinion homework shouldn't be abolished.I'm convinced the reason for that is the way homework doesn't flow - there is a need for additional work but the way it is set up doesn't work for pupils, teachers or parents. So I think homework should be given to children in a way that they enjoy it.
If you are asking in the context of the children that go to the school then I think that the home work is essential for the self improvement of students. In the classroom they get some class work and do that in the attention of teacher. Teacher resolves their problems and guides them at the moment. But homework is the task that is done at homes. It is a test of child's concentration in the class and the the teacher teaches.
If he takes class attentively then he/she will easily accomplish the homework. But if he/she does not participate in the class work, does not listen what the teacher teaches then he/she will find problem in doing homework. Thus home work is a way to prepare the topic or the lesson that teacher teaches in the class.
In my opinion it is a good practice to give a task to the students as homework so that they can easily understand it. But the homework should not be too much to be a burden on students. In this case the students will feel an overhead and try to avoid it. Homework should be light but some thing like that to make the students to explore the knowledge by themselves.
Yes.homeworks should be abolished because when there are no homeworks it decreases the stress on the student ,not only this they will even have time to study and even to attend other classes.that is I conclude saying that homeworks should be abolished in schools.
I think students should have only some homework. Just enough to practice and not too much that they rush it and forget all of it cause it destroys the points of just practicing. And some teachers don't accept "I was confused" and they get bad grade. I in 10th grade I get enough homework that I doo some in school and because of chores at home I go outside with friends few times a week, but my sister in 7th grade gets more than me!!! In middle school they are preparing you for highschool and we don't get as much as them
To have no homework is inhibits learning how to be responsible, but to have too much homework is counter-productive, especially with younger kids (younger than 6th grade). Once kids surpass 6th grade, it is time to learn more life skills, and learning outside of class is part of that. Kids do need to learn how to self-motivate.
We should always enjoy doing our home work. If we take home work to be a burden then we would not b able to cope up with our school life and future. We should always have a positive attitude towards education things and it may be Class or Home work or in the form of Projects and moreover the projects we get from our Respective teachers, only helps us to enrich our vocabulary and knowledge
I think homework should not be abolished as because it will give us a chance to revise those which were taught in our school.homework is that which will helps us to know about that how well we have understood in class and which position we prefer.
I think no Because :- 1.it helps you grasp the meaning of the lesson. 2 it helps you study for the test. 3 it makes you think about it,instead of just having it in front of you
No. I will say that it's irritating to see all these adults saying it's so important, but try asking a student sometime. To me, and most other students, homework is just busywork; tedious, worthless, and time-consuming. So when that is said, and thinking about the reasons for having homework, i.e. It's a good way to solidify the facts and techniques learned in class, one can reach the end with the knowledge that it's not a mystery why many students blow homework off. But we can't do that because if we do then we get bad grades and can't go to the colleges we should be going to. So what most students do to make a compromise, they copy other kids homework to get the credit, and doesn't that defeat the purpose all together? Teachers are always asking why kids who do their homework get such bad test grades is because they didn't do the homework because there's way too much. It's just crazy how much we have to deal with.
Yes, homework isn't to punish you or to do anythitng bad to you it is simply to get you to know the stuff better so that you can pass tests and go on to the next grade. If you only had the work that teachers gave you in class and know homework then that is just simply not enough to go on when the end of corse or CRCT test come around their would be no way you could just go on what your teacher gives yuo, you must have a little bit of practice on your own time and by yourself, homework is just for you it is so you can do it nad you can see how goood you are in that subject an dyou will not have to depend on your teacher the whole time because they are not going to be their when you get a job you will have to do it yourself sooner or later and the best bet is sooner!
I know it's probably pretty late for me to provide my opinion, but I believe that homework should be abolished. I am 17, and go to high school, and I'm in College Prep classes, getting ready for classes so when I graduate, I'll be ready, but, I believe that homework is pretty stupid. I used to do things in my class (they said getting ready) but my mom took the same courses in college, and never had that much work!!! It's crazy.
Homework is a waste of time, kids do work all day 5 days a week. Why should they do homework? Well its those silly teachers who think that we need practice or something like that. But really if you know any kid well you will find that they never will like homework. And also, homework can get to be a big waste of time, I mean like, no child or teen has the time for it. So as I have proven today homework is a waste of time and we all know it. And even those people who think that homework is great for kids hated homework in some point of there life any way its natural to hate home and thats why kids do.
NO! Because it stresses children out and stress is bad for the brain, making them less intelligent, resulting in more homework given by teachers. Homework makes students stay up late nearly every night, because they have to do it. Students need time to relax with family, friends and just by themselves. They also need time for after school activities like dance, soccer, swimming and way more. How can students have fun doing all these things when they have a big history report due the next day that they haven't done because of all their after school activities? It just isn't fair. So that is why I say students shouldn't have homework. If anyone needs to ask me something, type it here and I will answer you within a week. Thanks!
They should have homework because don't you want your children to be successful and have a great life? Well I know that I do. Homework prepares students to do great in school and other life problems. Home work may take a lot of time and its very hard well get used to it, my parents always tell me "life isn't fair get over it" or "if you want to successed work for it" knowing that your children can do what ever they want if they go to school, isn't that a good feeling?
It is important to do your homework because you learn what the teacher is going to give you the next day. Some times I kids saying that they forgot there books.I suggest that they should pack up slowly.
No beacuse our childhood is a time for kids to learn about the world and truly experience life...not sit at a desk at home and do math while other kids are playing fooball or something
I think yes because sometimes you could just feel like you can sleep when you come back from the school so you wont have time to do that ,so yes it should be abolished;omphile.mphofu(:
I am Sana Fatima aged 16. I totally agree that home works must be abolished. I to had a debate in my class and I was only d one who was against giving home works. Why do I think in this way. Because this will SIGNIFICANTLY end students from skipping school. HOMEWORK is equal to SKIPPING SCHOOL, no homework is equal to ends skipping school significantly.
Kids shouldnt have to do homework because besides all the sports and extra circular activities they do they don't have anytime for it. You go to school for 6 hours 5 days a week, shouldn't that be enough time for the teacher to teach all of the stuff that she needs to? I am in grade seven and get so much! I think that it is enough time to teach the curriculum in one day!
Yes, there should be home work, because if we enjoy homework, which is quite rare, means that we are being able to ignore all the negative attitude that lies all around us. Also, when we finish that self pride helps enlighten a student's mind. The people who find homework easy are inserting all the information they've learnt into their minds, without realizing it.
Students should have homework. I walk around highschool hearing other kids say thet they want to be internation super stars, athletes, doctors, military. They have no clue what to expect when they apply, or even get the job. When you get into college you have ten times more things to do and study for. College makes those certain students achieve their dream. My dream in life is to work for St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, and I know what hard work needs to happen for that to come true. I'm not a real fan of homework either, but homework is their key to success that can fill one's educational future with rewards for a lifetime:) and don't ANY of you forget that!!(:
I find it odd that there is such a black and white view taken on this subject. Frankly optional homework satisfies every purpose of homework without forcing homework upon the children that already understand the material. I know as adults it's easy to dismiss children as lazy, undisciplined, not knowing what's best for them, etc. When they say they don't want to do homework. But the majority of the time if you really talk to children, any children that have homework, and ask them why they don't want to do it, it is for one of three reasons. The first is that they may not see the need for education. This is usually behind responses like, "I want to play with my friends instead." and "Why do we even have homework?" This one is obviously a problem and needs to be dealt with by teaching them why they are doing homework and going to school, not just blindly forcing them do it. The second two reasons are either that the child already understands the material and finds it insanely boring to do their homework or that the child understands the material so little that they find doing their homework an impossible and depressing task. Both of these usually are the reason behind responses like, "homework is boring." or "it doesn't matter anyway." The former is not so much of a problem and optional homework would be perfect for this type of student. The latter is obviously a cause for concern but again will not be solved by simply trying to force them to do homework and punishing them when they don't. I can tell you as a recent graduate that homework absolutely crushes any curiosity about or desire to explore the subject matter any outside of school. For most students, homework gets out of the student the minimum effort the student can get away with without hearing about it from someone.
Homework in school should be continued but not in high schools. As kids has no other work to do at home. They waste their times on playing video games and other stuffs. 1 hour homework is very effective in memorizing their daily lessons.
It would be better if we had an allotted time (1-2 hours) AT school to do work. Then at home, we can do what ever we want! However, homework prepares us for University.
Nope teachers always say get outside its nice!! Well we can't because you give us loads and loads of homework and we don't get time to go outside and have family time
No homework! Stupids adults, you guys try doing classwork for the whole day with about 10 mean teachers.....and have 2 or 3 hours of homework with that an afterschool sport such as basketball!!!
I am Niyati Tanwar aged 16. Homework often forces a child to be inattentive in class. This is because at the back of their mind when a lesson is being taught, the child knows that at home he can go back and do his homework easily by asking his parents or tutor. The cost of education is very high nowadays. So it is an extra expense keeping the private tutors just to do the homework for the child. The work the child presents next day may not be his/her work. This is how the child tends to become lazy and does not want to think. Homework can cause another million problems so we must abolish it as soon as we can. Thus homework is nothing but a burden on the child. We should all start a rebellion against it and believe me this rebellion will be remembered and respected after hundreds of years by our companions. I think and hope that one day shall come when justice shall be done to me and my friends.
Yes and No. Yes because it allows children to excel at their specialist subject and allows them to improve on the subject that they are not so good at. And no because Some people call children unfit - well they don't have time to do sports because homework is taking over their sports lives. However with no homework some children would just slouch around on the sofa watching television or on the computer playing video games or social networking sites with their friends when in fact they live just down the road. So to conclude yes and no, the question should really be should children be home schooled?
"Homework" Eyup is way to irritate children. Children go to school and study for 6 -8 hours and still get the homework to do at home. What are schools meant for, why teachers give burden on children- for the reason that children should do the homework and not play and waste their time in playing or whatever. Teachers hardly teach for 6-8 hours but children has to obviously study.teachers themselves go home and rest or go out to relax but can children do this with a lot of homework given to them, obviously no.So teachers should reduce the burden on children and help them in ways to feel relaxed.
I think children should be given homework as it makes them responsible as well as makes them prepared for their upcoming exams . However, some children think that if they are given homework they won't have time for other activities but if they make a time table for their activities and stick to it they will enjoy doing their homeworks.Nothing is impossible!!! & when there is a will there is a way!!!
No they should not. It can stress them out very easily after coming home from 6-7 hours of school. And it breaks the bond between the child and their parents. And as a few others siad it makes them unfit having so much? Honestly I would not think so. Plus since children have homework why should they get 1-3 hours of it. Thats the same as someone coming home from work and having to do work. Everyone needs to relax after a long stressful day, shouldn`t they?
Personally I think children shouldn't have homework, but they do in order to prepare themselves for tests. They have tests in order to be smarter for the world they will be released into when they come to be of a certain age. 18
No they shouldn't cause if they do then they will have less free time if they want to go outside they can't cause there busy doing homework and there parents will make complaints and the kids will not want to go to school
I agree to an extent with what was said above but some high schools like the one I attended put to much focus on homework when evaluating a student. You will also see that many children because I assisted in tutoring other children will fall behind because many children I diagnosed with a learning disability and not that they are dumb in the way some parents see that situation but its more of they just learn in different ways and in some cases get poor grades for putting in a lot of effort into their work and not being able to see the feedback they deserved for trying their best. If your child has no Learning disabilities its one thing but if they do you will find that how for them can be extremely frustrating and teachers need to realize that they either need to make alternative work for these students so that they can succeed also.
You got to think about the kids future. NO! You don't want them to hate school. They will hate school and drop out (most kids). I don't know depends on the maturity level.
No , I'm is 6th grade and I get lots of home work its just stupid because I don't remember anything I have learned because its pretty much useless stuff anyway we should be spending time hanging out with friends and family not doing boring stuff like home work!! It puts WAY to much stress on me and I have already covered the stuff in my 6 hours of school whats the point of doing it at home?? I have to keep up with my gymnastics and home work its hard 2 fit it all in I mean KIDS HAVE A LIFE!!!!!
