The four areas of T.L.E., otherwise known as Technology and Livelihood Education are: Technology; livelihood; home economics; and discipline.

  • Technology
Technology is a massive subject and can cover many areas such as working with computers; looking at electronics and electrics and understanding how other things are designed and made from a variety of materials, including wood and plastics.

This is a vital subject to learn, and from an early an age as possible because there is no aspect of our everyday lives that is not touched by technology in some way or another.

Even if someone believes that they are not going to have a working life that includes technology, they would probably be surprised at the reality of the situation. Someone who works in an office, for example, will need to use the phone and probably a computer on a daily basis, and these skills need to be learned.

  • Livelihood
Many young people are ill equipped to live in a world that does not have parents and teachers showing them the way all of the time. They have to learn these valuable lessons at some point, so it makes sense that they are prepared in advance rather than being thrust in at the deep end.

  • Home economics
Running a home and being able to fend for yourself is a vital part of life. Home economics teaches these things and enables people to learn rudimentary cooking skills that they can develop as they become more confident in the kitchen.

  • Discipline
This may sound like a bizarre thing to learn but unless someone is a sociopath they need to be able to interact with others socially, and this often takes discipline.

Discipline can also be used in other areas of life, such as money management.
