A monetary amount is a whole number amount of the smallest currency unit. It will be written as a whole number together with a currency symbol, and possibly with a decimal point between two of the digits. Examples    1234 pennies can be written as $12.34    1234 dollars can be written as $1234, the same as 123400 pennies ($1234.00).  You can think of adding and subtracting money as adding and subtracting whole numbers of the smallest currency unit. Add the punctuation when you're done. Examples    1234 pennies + 468 pennies = 1702 pennies = $17.02    $12.34 + $4.68 = $17.02
