1) add 48 to both sides of the equation.  The result is 13q = -3q + 48
2) add 3q to both sides of the equation.  The result is 16q = 48
3) divide both sides of the equation by 16.  The result is q=3
hope this helps

1)put q on one side by adding -3q to both sides, so you get 16q-48=0
2) add 48 to both sides so that you get 16q=48
3)divide both sides by 16 and then you have q=3

First you divide -3q by 13q. That leaves you with -48=-3q/13q. Solve for q
