Reading is a verbal process in which we use our mouth and brain simultaneously. While writing involves the use of perceptual skills along with hands. While reading we estimate, memorise, understand , and pronounce (via tongue to produce vibes) and while writing we add all the above mentioned with an additional writing skills.
As far as the research says it is advised to write and learn so as to memorise it quickly. On the other hand reading benifits in pronounciation, better understanding of words.

They are related, in that you have to read what you write, but reading can be done without writing, when you read what is already written.
